This year’s most popular skincare brands might surprise you

Skincare is probably my biggest passion, favorite hobby, and a topic I’m interested in the most. Ask me about sunscreen or retinol, and I’ll cater my answer to whether you’re a newbie or a die-hard skincare fanatic. In my free time, I love reading about the newest skincare ingredients that are trending or products that have gone viral, yet, I’m not one to blindly follow trends or buy something because it's super popular.

I’m very loyal to certain skincare brands because they have worked for me and from talking to other folks and reading reviews, these brands don’t disappoint. Being a beauty writer, I have access to many beauty brands, and TBH, some are just better than others because they do what they claim.

With hundreds of skincare brands in the market and probably millions of skincare products hanging out on the shelves of department stores, drugstores, and beauty retailers- there are a few brands that are way more popular than the rest. Having turned 40 this year, I am picky about what I use on my skin long-term.

To know what brands are really worth your time and money, Landys Chemist did a study and came up with a list of the top 15 brands of the skincare industry based on public search trends and interests that includes brands with the biggest number of followers, have the highest engagement rate, have a popular or trending product, Google searches and more. Here are the top three:

Tatcha

Luxury brand Tatcha, inspired by Japanese wellness stands proudly at number three with 1.7 million Google searches between 2022 and 2023. This has 1.2 million Instagram followers with an engagement rate of 37% and scores 7.33 out of 10.

My favorite Tatcha product has to be The Dewy Skin Cream Plumping & Hydrating Moisturizer because it's so hydrating and makes my skin glow like I just went to the spa and had a facial. It has over 431.6K likes on Sephora.

CeraVe

CeraVe is dermatologist recommended, great for those with sensitive skin and so affordable so I’m not surprised, it's among the hottest skincare brands of the year. With 1 million followers on Instagram and a 28% engagement rate, this non-comedogenic brand had over 20 million Google searches in 12 months with an overall score of 8.67 out of 10.

Currently, I’m loving Hydrating Mineral Sunscreen with SPF 30 because this sunscreen protects you from UVA and UVB rays, and makes your skin look like a better version of your real skin with the most radiant glow. This sunscreen has over 30,000 five-star reviews on Amazon.

Drunk Elephant

The hottest skincare brand of 2023 is none other than Drunk Elephant, which has 1.5 million Instagram followers with a 0.40% engagement rate but searches for this brand grew 115% from 2021/2022 to 2022/2023. It has an impressive overall score of 9 out of 10.

If I had to choose only one product from this brand, it would have to be Protini Polypeptide Firming Refillable Moisturizer because it has signal peptides and growth factors to help with skin tone, texture, and firmness. You’ll be seeing peptides everywhere this year.
