It's October, which means it's Breast Cancer Awareness Month. It's an annual campaign to raise awareness and its impact on people, as many of us know someone who has been diagnosed, survived, or lost their battle with breast cancer.
According to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF), it's the most common cancer diagnosed among American women and the most common cancer globally. It's estimated that about 297,790 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in the United States in 2023.
According to the National Breast Cancer Coalition (NBCC), breast cancer can affect anyone, and familial history of breast cancer, aging, and genetic mutations can increase your chances. That's why early diagnosis with self-examinations or with your physician during your annual visits and regular mammograms past the age of 40 can help save lives.
Many beauty, fashion, and lifestyle brands have products that support organizations that fund breast cancer research, screening, and treatment. I love that these brands are transparent about how much they donate to the causes and which organizations they support. Support these brands, as every dollar makes a difference in someone's life. However, think pink not only in October but all the time.
