Skin is the canvas; makeup is the art
I adore makeup, yet skincare is my true passion. Makeup is a playful form of self-expression with evolving trends, but finding your signature look is timeless. Prioritize skincare; your skin is the canvas for the art of makeup.
Tinted Sunscreen
ODACITE Mineral Drops Spf 50 $33.60 (Originally $48)
Honorable mention: CERAVE Tinted Sunscreen $13.97 (Originally $15.99)
My base makeup is always tinted sunscreen, and this Odacite Mineral Drops with SPF 50 evens out my skin tone and has a radiant finish, which I love. It also has niacinamide, green tea, & chamomile- all good things for the skin. It keeps my skin pretty and protected.
Concealer
I don’t wear foundation, but I always wear concealer under my eyes to brighten the area and even out the skin tone. It isn’t cakey but very buildable and looks very natural.
Blush
LAURA GELLER NEW YORK Baked Blush-n-Brighten Marbleized Blush $14.70 (Originally $28)
Honorable mention: RARE BEAUTY Soft Pinch Liquid Blush $22.99 (Originally $25.29)
I only started wearing blush this year, and it’s the easiest way to make your skin look better. I love Laura Geller New York Baked Blush-n-Brighten Marbleized Blush in the shade “Coral Cove,” as pinks don’t work with my tan skin tone.
Highlighter
Honorable mention: L’ORÉAL Paris True Match Lumi Glotion, Natural Glow Enhancer $10.49 (Originally $16.99)
I love a good highlighter as a final step for my face makeup to accentuate my cheekbones, the tip of my nose, and Cupid’s bow. It’s subtle, but you can see the difference in pictures.
Eyebrows
Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Definer $18.20 (Originally $23)
Honorable mention: NYX PROFESSIONAL MAKEUP Fill & Fluff Eyebrow Pomade Pencil $12.59 (Originally $26)
Honestly, I don’t do much with my eyebrows as I am not interested since my bangs cover them most of the time. However, The Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Definer (I use the shade “Soft Brown”) has a triangular tipped pencil to define and fill in my brows, and I use the spoolie to even it out, and I’m done.
Eyeshadow Palette
URBAN DECAY Naked Reloaded Eyeshadow Palette $29 (Originally $59)
Honorable mention: MAYBELLINE The Nudes Eyeshadow Palette $11.98 (Originally $13.99)
A slightly modern twist on the classic, the Urban Decay Naked Reloaded combines matte and shimmer eyeshadows in earthy tones to create any day or night look. The shades are beyond gorgeous and highly pigmented. I love it more than the original.
Eye Pencil
Honorable Mention: RIMMEL London Scandaleyes Waterproof Gel Pencil Eyeliner $2.63 (Originally $4.49)
Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Waterproof Eyeliner Pencil made my teenage dream of finding the blackest black (shade “Perversion”) eyeliner that lasts forever come true. It glides without tugging and is the most pigmented eyeliner I have ever used.
Eye Pencil for Highlighting
NUDESTIX Magnetic Luminous Eye Color Pencil $21.60 (Originally $27)
Honorable mention: JULEP Eyeshadow 101 Crème to Powder Waterproof Eyeshadow Stick $11.20 (Originally $18)
I love the Nudestix Magnetic Luminous Eye Color Pencil in the shade “Nudity” to line my water line and accentuate the inner corner of my eyes to make them look brighter and more prominent. It’s also easily blendable for a smudged look or all-over color on the lids, and after it’s on- it won’t budge.
Liquid Eye Liner
STILA Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner $20 (Originally $24)
Honorable mention: THRIVE CAUSEMETICS Infinity Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner Pen $22
I still haven’t figured out the secret to drawing the perfect cat eye, so I basically just “wing” it with Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner, and if I’m lucky, I am happy with my first try. It’s the easiest liquid liner for beginners.
Mascara
LANCÔME Monsieur Big Volumizing Mascara $15 (Originally $30)
Honorable mention: MAYBELLINE The Falsies Lash Lift $7.49 (Originally $11.99)
I’m very extra when it comes to mascara because I have tiny lashes, so the bigger, the better. Lancôme Monsieur Big Volumizing Mascara gives my short lashes so much length and volume that it looks like I have fake lashes on, and I don’t even have to worry about them falling out.
Lip Tint
Honorable mention: Peripera Ink the Velvet Lip Tint $6.90
I’m constantly amazed by how long this Wonderskin Lip Tint lasts, and the shade “Whimsical” is my favorite. I have bought this more than any lip product, and I’ll be sad if they discontinue it. It’s perfect for those who want a beautiful color that lasts and lasts.
Lipstick
Honorable mention: REVLON Liquid Lipstick with Clear Lip Gloss $9
I’m not a lipstick person, but the Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick is the first lipstick I fell in love with because it's long-lasting, has full coverage, and won’t smudge for hours. It does bleed a bit if you are eating something greasy.
Setting Spray
Honorable mention: URBAN DECAY All Nighter Long-Lasting Makeup Setting Spray $36
I love dancing at music festivals for hours, and I wouldn’t say I like carrying anything for touch-ups, so a setting spray is a must-have. The Milani Setting Spray has a dewy finish and makes my makeup last forever (it says 16 hours) without creasing, smudging, or fading.
