My natural lashes are short, straight, and thin; I want them to look long, curled, and thick. Enter TikTok's latest makeup hack, "Mascara Cocktailing," that's literally winning the hearts of millions.
Don't worry; this has nothing to do with mixing your favorite mascara with alcohol. My genetics didn't gift me with Bambi lashes, and I have never wanted to commit to fake ones or extensions. Therefore, mascara cocktailing has been my go-to trick for years.
In mascara cocktailing, you basically layer various mascaras with different benefits, so your ultimate look is exactly what your dream lashes are made of. And makeup artists have been using this trick for years.
Makeup artist Niki M'nray told InStyle, "It gives you a more of a 3-D effect." It's not as messy as fake lashes and cheaper than investing in lash extensions that come with drawbacks like potentially losing your natural eyelashes when you remove them.
First, you need to figure out what your lashes need- does it need length, curl, definition, lift, or volume? Then, you can curate your look by choosing the mascaras to layer for the final reveal.
Personally, I'm lacking in all departments when it comes to lashes, so I use three products.
First, I use a mascara primer because it adds an extra coat to make my lashes look longer and thicker. My go-to is Lancôme Cils Booster XL Super-Enhancing Mascara Primer because it's the best and has 118.2K likes on Sephora. It's white, so it's easy to tell if you've coated them and helps volumize and lengthen your lashes and even has Vitamin E to condition.
Next, it's time for my first mascara, and I use Lancôme Lash Idôle Lash-Lifting & Volumizing Mascara because it lengthens, volumizes, and lifts my baby eyelashes. After applying two coats, I hold them up with my forefingers for 10 to 20 seconds as I don't trust lash curlers (I had a terrible experience once).
They're looking surprisingly good by now, but I don't leave the house without my last step. This is my favorite mascara of all time. I layer them with Benefit Cosmetics BADgal BANG! Waterproof Volumizing Mascara, and they look so ridiculously long, lifted, and voluminous. I hold them up again for 10-20 seconds, and I am done. It's the best dupe for fake lashes ever.
Waterproof mascara doesn't smudge and holds the lashes up longer than regular mascara, so I am a fan. I'm so extra when it comes to my lash game, but the three steps are totally worth it.
